Product Safety & Compliance

Product Safety & Compliance

What goes into making sure every Mason Park item is safe to own and wear.

This page explains, in specific and plain terms, the safety standards, labeling laws, and consumer-protection frameworks that apply to the clothing, footwear, eyewear, watches, belts, and bags we sell — across the United States and every country we ship to — and what to do if you ever have a safety concern about something you bought from us.

Our approach

Safety is checked before a product is ever listed, not after a complaint arrives

Supplier & materials review

Before a style is added to the Mason Park catalog, we review the manufacturing partner's material composition, construction, and any relevant test documentation for the applicable product category — fabric and trim for apparel, lens and frame material for sunglasses, movement and battery type for watches, hardware and leather treatment for belts and bags.

Accurate labeling on every listing

Fiber content, country of origin, care instructions, and any category-specific safety information (such as lens UV rating or battery type) are published on the product page and, where physically required by law, on the item's attached label — not buried in fine print or omitted to save space.

Mason Park is a trading name of Black Scape LLC, headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware, United States. Black Scape LLC is the responsible party for product compliance on mason-park.com and is the point of contact for any regulator, safety authority, or customer inquiry relating to product safety. We do not sell products intended or marketed for children under 13, medical devices, prescription eyewear, or any item subject to a mandatory federal recall at the time of listing.

Regulatory framework

The laws that govern the products we sell

Because Mason Park ships across the United States and internationally, more than one legal framework applies depending on where an order is delivered. The tabs below set out, jurisdiction by jurisdiction, the specific statutes and regulatory bodies relevant to apparel, footwear, eyewear, watches, and leather accessories.

15 U.S.C. §2051 et seq.

Consumer Product Safety Act (CPSA)

Establishes the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and its authority to set and enforce safety standards for consumer products, including apparel, footwear, and accessories, and to order recalls or corrective action where a product presents a substantial risk of injury.

16 CFR Part 1610

Flammable Fabrics Act & Standard for Clothing Textiles

Sets flammability performance requirements for clothing textiles sold in the United States. We require our manufacturing partners to produce apparel that meets this standard's burn-rate classifications before a style ships to customers.

15 U.S.C. §70 et seq.

Textile Fiber Products Identification Act (TFPIA)

Requires accurate disclosure of fiber content (for example, "100% Cotton" or "60% Cotton, 40% Polyester"), the country where the item was processed or manufactured, and the identity of the responsible marketer on the product's label and listing.

16 CFR Part 423

FTC Care Labeling Rule

Requires a permanent, legible care label disclosing how to safely wash, dry, bleach, and iron a garment, based on testing rather than a manufacturer's assumption. Care instructions listed on our product pages mirror the label sewn into the item.

15 U.S.C. §1191 et seq.

Wool Products Labeling Act

Where a listing contains wool or a wool blend, the percentage of wool, recycled wool, and other fibers by weight is disclosed, consistent with federal wool-labeling requirements.

FTC Act §5 & Textile/Guides

Truth-in-advertising & "Made in USA" claims

Country-of-origin and any "Made in" claim shown on a product page reflects where the item was actually manufactured or last substantially transformed, in line with FTC guidance on unqualified and qualified origin claims.

Cal. Health & Safety Code §25249.5 et seq.

California Proposition 65

California requires a clear warning before a consumer is knowingly exposed to certain listed chemicals above defined thresholds — most commonly relevant to metal hardware (buckles, watch cases, eyelets) and dyed or coated leather goods. Where a specific product warrants a Proposition 65 warning, it is displayed on that product's page prior to purchase, in addition to any physical warning on the item or its packaging.

State sales & nexus law

Sales tax collection

Mason Park is headquartered in Delaware and collects sales tax only in states where we have a legal obligation to do so under that state's economic or physical nexus rules; applicable tax is calculated automatically at checkout.

CCPA / CPRA (Cal. Civ. Code §1798.100 et seq.)

California Consumer Privacy Act

California residents have the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information collected in connection with a purchase, including any data gathered for product-safety or warranty-registration purposes. Instructions for exercising these rights are set out in our Privacy Policy.

State consumer-protection statutes

Other state-level protections

States including New York, Massachusetts, Illinois, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and Utah maintain their own consumer-protection and, in several cases, consumer-privacy statutes. Where a state's law provides a protection beyond the federal baseline described above, that protection applies in full to residents of that state.

Regulation (EU) 2023/988 & UK GPSR

General Product Safety Regulation

Governs the safety of consumer products, including apparel, footwear, and accessories, placed on the EU and UK markets, including requirements around traceability, warnings, and manufacturer/importer identification. Orders shipped into the EU or UK are accompanied by the product and origin information required to support these obligations, and the recipient is treated as the importer of record for that shipment.

Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006

REACH — chemical restrictions

Restricts substances such as certain azo dyes, nickel release from metal components, and specific phthalates in goods placed on the EU market. We require manufacturing partners supplying items likely to reach EU or UK customers — including hardware on belts, bags, and watches — to work within these restricted-substance limits.

UKCA & CE marking rules

Conformity marking (where applicable)

Where a product category requires UKCA or CE conformity marking under UK or EU law, that marking and any accompanying documentation is maintained by the relevant manufacturer and made available on request; general apparel, footwear, and fashion accessories of the kind we sell are not, as a category, subject to CE/UKCA marking requirements.

Canada Consumer Product Safety Act

Health Canada — CCPSA

Governs the safety of consumer products sold to or imported by Canadian consumers, including textile flammability and hazardous-substance limits, administered by Health Canada.

Competition & Consumer Act 2010 (Cth), Sch. 2

Australian Consumer Law

Provides Australian customers with statutory guarantees of acceptable quality, fitness for purpose, and matching description, independent of and in addition to our own Return & Refund Policy.

Customs & import law, destination country

Duties, taxes & import compliance

For every order shipped outside the United States, the recipient is the importer of record and is responsible for any customs duties, import taxes, or brokerage fees assessed by the destination country, in addition to complying with that country's product-entry requirements.

Category-specific standards

How safety applies to each product type we sell

Different product categories carry different safety obligations. Open a category below for the specific standards, labeling, and precautions that apply to it.

Every fabric used in our tops, bottoms, and outerwear is required to meet the flammability performance thresholds set by the Flammable Fabrics Act (16 CFR Part 1610) before the style is approved for sale. Fiber content shown on each product page — for example, wool, cotton, polyester, or a blend percentage — matches the sewn-in label required under the Textile Fiber Products Identification Act.

Care instructions (machine wash, dry clean only, do not bleach, and similar) are set according to the FTC Care Labeling Rule and reflect actual testing of the fabric, not a generic default. For outerwear with insulation or fill, the fill material and, where filled with down or feathers, the fill-power characteristics are disclosed on the product page.

Zippers, snaps, buttons, and drawcords used in adult outerwear are sourced to standard commercial hardware specifications appropriate for adult apparel; none of our tops, bottoms, or outerwear are designed, sized, or marketed for children.

Upper, lining, and sole materials (leather, suede, synthetic upper, rubber or EVA outsole, and similar) are listed on each footwear product page so you can check for material sensitivities before buying. We do not make traction, waterproofing, or slip-resistance claims for a style unless that claim has been verified by the manufacturer for that specific construction.

Sizing tables on each footwear listing are checked against physical samples of that style; because fit can vary between last shapes, we recommend reviewing the specific size chart on the product page rather than relying on your size in another brand.

Any adhesives or dyes used in construction are required to meet the chemical-restriction limits applicable in the destination market, including REACH restricted-substance limits for items shipped into the EU or UK.

All sunglasses sold by Mason Park are non-prescription fashion eyewear and are not medical devices. Each listing states the lens UV protection rating (for example, UV400, indicating protection against ultraviolet radiation up to 400 nanometers) as supplied by the manufacturer; we do not publish a UV rating we have not received documentation for.

Frame and lens materials are disclosed on the product page. Lens construction for the styles we sell follows the voluntary ANSI Z80.3 non-prescription sunglass guidance used across the U.S. eyewear industry for basic impact resistance; this is a voluntary industry standard rather than a mandatory federal requirement for non-prescription fashion eyewear. Sunglasses are not intended for use as protective eyewear during sports involving projectiles, power tools, or industrial work.

Discontinue use and contact us if a lens or frame cracks, separates, or shows sharp edges — do not continue wearing damaged eyewear near the eyes.

Our watches use standard replaceable coin/button-cell batteries. These batteries are a swallowing and chemical-burn hazard if removed from the watch case and should always be kept away from young children and pets, and disposed of at a battery-recycling or hazardous-waste collection point rather than in household trash, in line with state and local battery-disposal rules.

Case material (stainless steel, alloy, or plated finish), strap material (leather, silicone, or metal band), and water-resistance rating, if any, are listed on the product page. A stated water-resistance rating describes resistance to splashes or brief exposure, not sustained submersion or diving, unless explicitly stated otherwise.

Metal components are sourced to stay within nickel-release limits applicable for items shipped into the EU or UK; customers with a known nickel sensitivity should review the case and strap materials before purchase.

Belt and small-leather-goods listings disclose whether the material is genuine leather, split leather, or a synthetic ("vegan leather") alternative, along with the buckle or hardware finish. Genuine leather is tanned and finished by our manufacturing partners within the chemical-restriction limits applicable to the destination market, including EU/UK REACH limits on chromium VI and azo dyes where relevant.

Buckle and hardware components are checked against nickel-release limits for shipments into the EU and UK. If you experience skin irritation from prolonged contact with any metal hardware, discontinue use and contact our support team.

Bag listings disclose exterior and lining material, along with strap or handle hardware finish. Zippers, clasps, and metal feet are sourced from suppliers required to stay within the chemical-restriction limits of the destination market. Strap and handle stitching is load-tested by our manufacturing partners to the carry capacity described on the product page; bags should not be loaded beyond the stated capacity, as this can stress seams and hardware.

Seasonal and limited-run styles are not held to a lower standard than our core catalog. Every item in the Early Fall Collection and future seasonal drops passes the same fiber-content, flammability, care-labeling, and material-disclosure checks described above for its specific product type before it is published for sale.

Recalls & corrective action

What happens if a safety issue is identified after a product ships

If a manufacturing defect, mislabeling error, or regulatory finding is identified in a Mason Park product after it has shipped, we follow a defined process rather than handling it case by case.

01

Investigation & containment

Affected styles are removed from sale on mason-park.com immediately, and we work with the relevant manufacturing partner to identify the scope of affected units by order and production batch.

02

Regulatory notification, where required

Where a defect meets the substantial-risk threshold under the Consumer Product Safety Act, we report it to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, and to the equivalent authority in any other country where affected units were shipped (for example, the relevant EU/UK market surveillance authority, Health Canada, or the ACCC in Australia).

03

Direct customer notification

Customers who purchased an affected style are contacted directly at the email address on file with clear instructions — which may include a free return, refund, replacement, or repair, depending on the nature of the issue.

04

Public recall notice

Where a recall is issued, a notice is published on our FAQ page and, for U.S. recalls, on CPSC.gov, in addition to direct customer contact. You can check for open recalls affecting products sold in the United States at any time through the CPSC's public recall database.

Report a safety concern

Tell us if something feels wrong with a product you received

If an item you purchased shows a defect that could pose a safety risk — a sharp edge, a battery that overheats, a strap or hardware that fails under normal use, or anything that doesn't match its safety-related description — stop using the item and contact us. Include your order number, the product name, and, where possible, a photo or short description of the issue.

If there is an immediate safety risk

Stop using the product right away. If anyone has been injured, seek appropriate medical attention first, and consider reporting the incident to the CPSC at SaferProducts.gov in addition to contacting us, so the issue can be investigated at both a company and regulatory level.
